CSM Alfred Edward Edwards OBE, MC, PMM, KPM

 
 

Alfred Edward Edwards, Chief Constable of Middlesborough.  18th February 1939 until April 7, 1956.


Mr Edwards was born April 6, 1896 in Burnley, Lancashire.


He joined the 2nd Battalion the 4th Loyal North Lancashire Regiment on August 6, 1914.   He was acting CSM effective 1st June 1917 and promoted to WOII 10th May 1917.


He was awarded the Military Medal for bravery in the field at Messines Ridge (June 1917)


He was awarded the Military Cross for his bravery at Passchendale on 26th October 1917.


In August 1920 he joined the Manchester Police, promoted to Sergeant in 1927, D/Insp. 1931. Superintendent/Asst. Chief Constable Burnley 9th November 1934, Chief Constable of Burnley 1st April 1937 and appointed Chief Constable of Middlesborough 18th February 1939.


He died 2nd March 1978.
